Lesson number 9 (A.Tompkins)

Introduction to radiation and radiation processes (III part)

In this lesson the teacher concludes the subject of radiation. He describes the radiative effect of gases in the atmosphere. The absorption spectrum of atmospheric gases is introduced (they absorb only at specific ranges of wavelengths) and the importance of greenhouse effect of gases is stressed. Finally, the teacher explains the complicated effect of clouds on the radiation transmission in the atmosphere.
